Earlier this week it was being reported that Rangers are planning to make a move for Fenerbahce centre-back Martin Skrtel.

Gerrard and Skrtel had been teammates at Liverpool and with the defender’s contract expiring in the summer, the Gers fans were hoping that their manager could use his friendly connection to bring the player to Ibrox.

But right that seems to be a really difficult task.

According to reports, Martin Skrtel is not too keen in leaving Fenerbahce this month since he wants to help out the Turkish club.

Fenerbahce are currently the second worst team in the Turkish league and the defender does not want to leave them in murky waters during the middle of the season.

Skrtel currently wants to stay in Turkey and help Fenerbahce move out of the relegation zone following which he will make a decision about his future.

There is still a huge possibility that the 34-year-old will move out of Turkey but it looks like the move will only happen at the end of the season.

This surely is bad news for Rangers since the manager is in desperate need of a new defender for the second half of the season.

The Gers signed the likes of Gareth McAuley, Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson during the summer transfer window but none of these players have been able to live up the expectations.

Rangers tried to sign Martin Skrtel during the summer but somehow the deal did not go through and now it seems the Scottish outfit will have to wait for another six months in order to get the services of the centre-back.
