West Ham United appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new boss earlier on in the summer and the club have entrusted the new manager with a major overhaul at the London Stadium.

And as the case is with every remodelling process a series of players are constantly linked with a move to the said club – West Ham United being no different.

The latest player being associated with the Hammers is 35-year-old striker Jermain Defoe who is not a very likeable figure at the club.

Defoe started his senior career at West Ham but the player immediately fell on the bad books of the supporters after he handed in a transfer request following the Hammers’ relegation in the 2002/03 season.

But speaking to the Express, Jermain Defoe has claimed that returning to West Ham still remains a possibility and if he were to go back to the London Stadium the fans there will accept him once again.

Defoe said: “If I ever sign for West Ham again, of course, they will forgive me. There’s been speculation and stuff and I thought it was going to happen when I was at Sunderland.

“In my last year at Sunderland, I got a call and there was some interest. On social media literally, all the West Ham fans were like ‘come back, come back’.

“That was always quite interesting because when I play against West Ham I get a lot of stick which you can understand but I don’t know. If you are a goalscorer, people appreciate you.”

What Jermain Defoe did was just talk about the possibility of going back one of his former clubs but immediately multiple publications started claiming that the 35-year-old move to West Ham is a big possibility.

But in reality, it is SPFL side, Rangers FC who are said to be close to landing the striker.

Like West Ham, Rangers also have a new boss this summer in the form of Steven Gerrard and it is being claimed that the Gers are leading the race to signing Jermain Defoe from AFC Bournemouth.

Defoe has 12 months remaining on his current contract and Rangers are not the only club interested in signing him up.

Clubs like Blackburn Rovers, Leeds and Wigan are all in the hunt for the player who is currently in pre-season training with Bournemouth.

The details of the alleged transfer have not been revealed just yet but Bet Victor has placed Rangers FC as the new favourites to signing Jermain Defoe.
