Rangers FC are still alive in the Europa League this season which is great news for Scottish football but UEFA might indirectly help the Gers in challenging Celtic FC for the domestic title next season.

As per a report in the Football Insider, UEFA might be making plans to chop down their Europa League qualifying rounds in order to safe time meaning Rangers might end up playing just one qualifying leg for the 2020-21 season.

The report claims: “Rangers could be just one match away from a stunning £20million-plus Europa League windfall under new plans being drafted by Uefa.

“A Uefa source has told Football Insider that drastic measures are being proposed due to the short timeframe for next season’s competition and that could mean Rangers’ Europa League 2020-21 dream hinging on a winner-takes-all match.

“Plans are afoot for the make-up of the 2020-21 Europa League as officials battle with shoehorning fixtures into a far tighter timeframe than normal.”

Rangers FC more fresh for the new season?

Under the current rules, Rangers FC have to play eight matches through three qualifying rounds and one play-off round which takes a massive toll on the fitness of the players.

And all these matches are played even before the Scottish season officially begins.

Celtic also have to go through this process but they have now been streamlined in doing this every year and they somehow manage to hold onto their form for the entirety of the season.

Rangers FC on the other hand, lose steam by the end of the campaign and in the past two years, this very factor has been helped Celtic take a lead in the title race.

But if UEFA’s new plan comes into effect, Rangers will not only have a better chance at playing in the Europa League but will also be fresher for the new Premiership season.
