Rangers vs Leipzig

Rangers FC have signed Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson this summer who are probably going to be the central defensive partnership for the new season.

But with Bruno Alves moving back to Italy, the Gers are now in the hunt for a new centre-back who can act as a back-up for the first choice pair.

And for a couple of weeks, it was being suggested that Gerrard was looking at Milwall defender Jake Cooper.

But after three rejected bids, reports in Scotland claimed that the Gers have stopped pursuing the Milwall centre-back and will now try and sign Blackpool defender Curtis Tilt.

The Light Blues had recently sent out scouts to watch the 26-year-old in action for Blackpool and many felt that signing Tilt for a transfer fee of £1 million was a much sensible option as compared to Jake Cooper who would have cost the club more than £3 million.

While Rangers were playing their Europa League qualifying clash vs FC Shkupi in Macedonia, Steven Gerrard had Curtis Tilt watched when Blackpool played a friendly against Burnley behind closed doors.

But now according to The Sunday Post, Rangers are no longer interested in signing Curtis Tilt.

Too many details have not been provided as to why the Gers have pulled out of the race to sign Tilt but it is being claimed that the Blackpool defender does not suit the brief of Steven Gerrard.

It is still unsure what Rangers’ next move will be and it remains to be seen if the Ibrox outfit will make a fourth bid for Milwall defender Jake Cooper.

Den boss Neil Harris has already rejected three bids from Rangers – the final one being in the region of £1 million, maintaining that Jake Cooper is not for sale during the summer transfer window.
