SPFL Rangers FC have reportedly stolen a march in the signing of striker Ivan Toney from Peterborough United, as per Football Insider.
The 24-year-old is being chased by a plethora of clubs including both Celtic and Rangers FC but now as per the latest updates, the Gers along with West Brom are the two favourites to land him in the summer.
The report claims: “Rangers have surged ahead of Celtic in the race to prise goal machine Ivan Toney from Peterborough United this summer.
“A recruitment source has told Football Insider the two clubs currently leading the multiple-team fight for Toney are Rangers and West Brom.”
Ivan Toney has been in top-notch form for Peterborough this season, scoring 24 goals and providing six assists in just 32 League One match.
And the fact that the Gers are one of the clubs likely to sign him is a major blow for arch-rivals Celtic FC who are looking to bring in a long-term replacement to Odsonne Edouard.
The Frenchman is wanted by Premier League side Arsenal and if he decides to head out then a player like Ivan Toney will be the perfect solution to all of Neil Lennon’s problems.
But Rangers FC are also on a lookout for a top-quality striker since Alfredo Morelos could be on his way out and it looks like Steven Gerrard has really set his sights on the Peterborough man.
The player has just one year left on his current deal meaning the League One side should be ready to sell him off for cheap but Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has made it clear that the potential suitors will have to pay a handsome fee in order to lure the 24-year-old out of the club this summer.
Another major problem for Rangers FC will be the interest from West Brom since the Championship side look all set to return to the Premier League and we have doubt if Toney will snub a chance to play in the English top division in order to join the Ibrox outfit.
