Steven Gerrard has so far signed four new players during the January transfer window out of which two players have already joined the club and the rest will arrive during the summer.

In Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, the manager has solved his midfield and striker problems and now his next target will be to bring in a new defender.

And reports are suggesting that Rangers are planning to make a move for former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.

Skrtel currently plays for Fenerbahce and this is not the first time that the Gers have shown an interest in signing the centre-back.

Rangers made an offer to sign Martin Skrtel during the summer but eventually, the deal did not go through.

And now the Gers are planning to launch another bid for Martin Skrtel sometime this month.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard had previously played with the 34-year-old during their time at Liverpool and the boss is planning to use this connection to bring the defender to Ibrox.

Martin Skrtel is out of contract at Fenerbahce at the end of the season and many hope the Turkish club will be trying to avoid letting him move out as a free agent.

The Gers signed a number of centre-backs during the summer but none of them has been able to become first-team regulars as a result of which the Teddy Bears have been leaking goals.

And the manager feels he needs to add some much-needed experience at the back in order to plug that hole.

But it still remains to be seen whether Fenerbahce allows Martin Skrtel to leave Turkey this month.
