Rangers FC take on Ayr United in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final on Wednesday and Steven Gerrard is expected to make a number of changes to his first team line up.

Players like Kyle Lafferty and Candeias will get a much-deserved rest in midweek and they should be replaced by the team’s second string players.

And on Monday the Light Blues gave a little sneak peek of the some of the players who could feature in the Rangers line-up vs Ayr.

Umar Sadiq, Eros Grezda and Jordan Rossiter all played 45 minutes for the Rangers reserves team against Motherwell and it is more or less certain that the trio will be named in the Rangers line-up vs Ayr.

Alfredo Morelos was suspended for the Europa League clash vs Villareal but he made a goalscoring comeback against St Johnstone in the weekend. But the manager will want the Colombian to sit this one out given that he is the club’s first choice striker.

Kyle Lafferty has played two back to back games meaning he should be replaced by Umar Sadiq in the Rangers line-up vs Ayr United.

Daniel Candeias will also get a rest and hopefully, summer signing Eros Grezda will take up his place in the starting line up.

First choice keeper Allan McGregor had been outstanding for the Light Blues ever since he rejoined the club during the summer but there is a high possibility that the manager might choose to play Wes Foderingham against Ayr United on Wednesday

Jordan Rossiter has fully recovered from the knock that he picked up in pre-season and will play his first match under Steven Gerrard in the new season.

Centre-back Joe Worrall will start the match after reports circulating in the media that Steven Gerrard wants to sign the Nottingham Forest defender permanently at the end of the season.

The Rangers line-up vs Ayr will surely see a number of non-regular faces more so because the Light Blues hit the road for the weekend as they travel to the Almondvale Stadium.
