Rangers returned from the international break and took on Kilmarnock at the Rugby Park in midweek.

And this game wasn’t a particularly happy one for the Gers fans.

Rangers took the lead through new signing Jermain Defoe early on in the half but then Killie fought back and equalised through Eamonn Brophy just 10 minutes after falling behind.

And it was actually Jordan Jones who picked up the winning goal vs the club he is set to join during the summer transfer window.

Steven Gerrard chose to tweak his formation for the Kilmarnock game which many believe was the sole reason why the Gers lost three points.

But the manager begs to differ.

“There was a temptation to keep the same team (that beat Celtic) but then if we lost having done that the accusation would have been that we were predictable given they had so much time to work on it,” said Gerrard.

“People will look at the formation and personnel and blame me, which they can, that’s no problem.

“But if we don’t give Kilmarnock two gifts tonight we win the game and people would be saying well done for changing the system.

“That’s football.”

Talking about Joe Worrall’s error, the manager said: “He’s put his hand up for the mistake but we have enough experience out there to react positively from a mistake.

“The worry and the concern was that it had an effect on the 11 until half-time.

“Then we weren’t even able to reset and go again. We just didn’t turn up in the second half.”

The loss means Rangers have now slipped down to third on the Premiership table and next up they will take on Livingston away from home at the Almondvale Stadium.
