Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is currently out in the market looking for a new midfielder and if reports are to be believed then the boss has made a move for Joe Aribo.

Joe Aribo has come up through the ranks at Charlton Athletic and this past season, the midfielder played a crucial role for the League One side.

During the 2018-19 season, Aribo played 36 games in the league for Charlton scoring nine goals and setting up a further five.

And now reports are suggesting that Rangers have made a bid for the midfielder who is currently a free agent after his contract expired at the end of the season.

The report claims that the Gers have offered Aribo a long-term contract at Ibrox along with a significant pay rise.

And many believe such a lucrative deal is primarily to fend off interest from Celtic who are also keen on signing the 22-year-old.

Neil Lennon has indicated that most of his signings during the summer will come from England and Joe Aribo is rumoured to be on the list.

Charlton played a diamond formation this past season and Joe Aribo was key in that formation.

But the main aspect why the youngster has caught the eyes of the likes of Rangers and Celtic is the fact that despite being a central midfielder, he can play in almost any position in the middle of the pitch.

While Charlton still have hopes of keeping Aribo at the club for one more season but with the amount of interest and offers that he has gotten, it is clear that the midfielder will be returning back.

Rangers currently have an overload of midfielders, but some reports have suggested that Gerrard is more than ready to sell some of them off in order to accommodate Joe Aribo next season.
