Rangers FC are planning to bring in a few new players during the January transfer window and former Celtic striker Andy Walker believes he knows what the Gers manager will be targeting next month.

It is no secret that the Teddy Bears will be looking to bring in a third striker who can help ease the burden on Kyle Lafferty and Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos has scored continuous goals this season for Rangers but the ill-timed suspensions have caused a real headache for Steven Gerrard.

On the other hand, the manager has Kyle Lafferty who started the season in fine form but recently the senior pro has been misfiring heavily.

And Andy Walker believes that Gerrard will be on the hunt for a new striker during the January transfer window.

Andy Walker said: “I think what Steven Gerrard, as Brendan Rodgers will be doing, is looking for is some serious strengthening up front.

“I think the priority has got to be up top. Alfredo Morelos is top scorer and when he retains his composure and when he’s got a bit of temperament when he can control his emotions, he has a big effect on any game he plays for Rangers.

“But his disciplinary record is poor and I think Kyle Lafferty coming in hasn’t really risen to the challenge as yet.”

Rangers have shortlisted a number of players who are a perfect fit for that third striker’s role and it remains to be seen which player will Steven Gerrard make a move for once the transfer window reopens.
