Manchester United & Chelsea receive a huge boost in signing this 28 Y/O centre-back?

Premier League sides Man United and Chelsea remain highly interested in defender Raphael Varane and some of the latest gossips had suggested that Real Madrid have given up hope on holding onto him.

Varane has one more year left on his current deal and Madrid are trying really hard to make him sign a new deal. Till now, it looked like the club had accepted the fact they will have to cash in on him.

But, in a recent interview, Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez has confirmed that they still remain undecided on the defender’s future and neither have they received any bids for him.

Perez said in an interview with El Transistor, as quoted: ‘I read news in the newspapers [about Varane leaving] and I don’t know anything.

‘We have not spoken with him yet, he is in the Eurocup. He still has one year left on his contract. And we have not received any offers for Varane.

‘He is a gentleman, if he wants to stay he will stay and if not, he will leave.’

Is Raphael Varane staying at Real Madrid?

So the reports that Manchester United had seen a £43 million rejected is not true at all. But, despite that, we don’t think Raphael Varane has any intention of staying at the Bernabeu beyond the summer.

The fact he has not even begun contract talks is a clear sign that he wishes to head out sometime this summer and in this interview, Perez has dropped a hint that Real Madrid might be planning for life without him.

Since he is in the final year of his contract a bid of £55-60 million should be enough to lure him out of Spain but what remains to be seen is if chooses Manchester United or Chelsea.

Logically, he should be heading to Man United since he will be a guaranteed starter there but the recent Champions League winners’ status of Chelsea will also be attracting him.

PSG have also been linked with a move for the 28-year-old but the defender has made it clear that he does not wish to head back to his homeland any time soon.
