Real Madrid have joined Premier League side Manchester United in the race to sign Schalke’s 19-year-old winger Rabbi Matondo – as per Diario Madridista.

The report claims: “The 19-year-old Schalke 04 winger is being followed by Real Madrid’s scouting network. In the club, his progression has not gone unnoticed and in recent months they are very aware of all his movements.

“At Real Madrid, he likes this young and fast winger a lot. Scouts warn that he still needs to mature and for this, he must have minutes, just what he is finding in Gelsenkirchen, where this season he has 735 ′ and a goal.

“However, they are convinced that with the passing of the games it will be important and, what seems evident, is that Rabbi Matondo ahead has a great future.”

Rabbi Matondo joined Schalke just last year from Manchester City’s U23 side for a reported transfer fee of around €9 million and this season, the 19-year-old has played in 14 Bundesliga matches so far.

Will Real Madrid land Rabbi Matondo?

A couple of days ago when the Welsh winger was asked about the possibility of joining Manchester United in the summer, the 19-year-old had made it clear that he is currently focused on playing for Schalke.

He told MEN: “Obviously there are people talking, asking me and stuff but I am not really thinking about it,

“I am concentrating on Schalke. I still have to achieve my goals for Schalke. I am just concentrating on that and we just see how things go, but for now, I am just focused on Schalke. Hopefully, I can get into the team and help them climb up the table.”

But now the dynamics are about to change since it’s not every day that a manager like Zinedine Zidane comes calling for you.

The entry of Real Madrid into this transfer race will surely be a bit unsettling for Manchester United but we don’t think Solskjaer will be too worried about this.

Man United’s first-choice target has always been Dortmund’s young sensation Jadon Sancho and Rabbi Matondo was being considered a back-up option in case the Old Trafford outfit could not land the England international.
