Real Madrid are reportedly looking at former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas as a possible replacement for Zinedine Zidane.
Days after winning his third consecutive Champions League title, Zinedine Zidane shockingly stepped down from his position as Real Madrid manager and since then the Los Blancos have been on the hunt of the Frenchman’s successor.
A lot of managers have been linked to the job at the Bernabeu and now RMC are suggesting that Florentino Perez has made contact with Andre Villas-Boas.
Villas-Boas was the next big thing in the managerial world when he broke in the European scene with his club Porto back in 2010-11 and Premier League side Chelsea wasted no time in bringing him to Stamford Bridge in June of 2011.
Touted as the next Jose Mourinho, the Portuguese manager failed to emulate his fellow Portuguese’s heroics.
Villas-Boas failed to last even the whole season at Chelsea and was relieved from his duties in March of next year.
The 40-year-old next went on to take charge of Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs but there too Villas-Boas failed to create any sort of magic.
His win ratio at White Hart Lane did increase a bit from his Chelsea days but he failed to complete two full seasons there.
Andre Villas-Boas’ latest managerial assignment was in the Chinese League where he managed Shanghai SIPG.
But in November of 2017, he revealed that he was taking a break from managing and wanted to pursue his passion for motorsports. And true to his word, the 40-year-old took part in the 2018 Dakar Rally.
If Florentino Perez does end of appointing Andre Villas-Boas as Real Madrid’s new manager then it will certainly be a step down from the Champions League winners – more so when the former Chelsea and Spurs boss will have the emulate Zinedine Zidane’s success.
