Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has chosen to give Reece James a promotion to the first-team squad as Davide Zappacosta plans to head out of the club.
As per reports, the Blues are planning to let Zappacosta head back to Rome on loan for the season which means Reece James is set to become a regular feature for the club.
And many believe this is one of the main reasons why West Ham United failed to sign the youngster during the summer transfer window.
Reece James has come up through the ranks at Chelsea and last season the 19-year-old was sent out on loan to Championship side Wigan Athletic.
The youngster managed to put in a fine display with Wigan featuring in 35 games in the Championship and managing to score and assist a total of 6 goals.
And this was one of the main reasons why West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini made an approach for the right-back.
Ryan Fredericks is currently the first-choice right-back for the Hammers this season so naturally, the manager did not particularly need the services of Reece James.
But with Pablo Zabaleta as the back up to Fredericks, we can understand why West Ham decided to make a move for the Chelsea lad.
Frank Lampard though has made it clear time and again that he will be giving youth a chance this new season and Reece James is one of those players who are in line to play a big role for the Blues.
And this is not the only reason why the Chelsea boss refused to let Recee James leave.
The 19-year-old is primarily a right-back but can also double up as a centre-back and this talent will come pretty handy during the current season.
Chelsea could not sign any new player during the summer due to the transfer ban imposed and a versatile player like Reece James will come really handy for Frank Lampard.
But missing out on Reece James was not particularly a big blow for West Ham United either.
