Reece James has come up through the ranks at Chelsea and it looks like the youngster is finally going to get his chance with the first team.

Last season, Reece James was sent out on loan to Wigan Athletic and the right-back played in 45 Championship games scoring three goals and assisting another three.

And this is why West Ham United were keen to sign him during the summer transfer window but Frank Lampard refused to let him leave.

The Hammers believed they would be able to sign the youngster for the 2019-20 season but the Chelsea boss did not want him to leave on another loan spell. And now we know why.

According to reports, Lampard is planning to promote Reece James and the England U20 is set to feature at right-back as soon as he returns from injury.

Right now, James is out with an ankle injury but reports claim he should be fit for selection once the clubs return from the international break.

And this is when Lampard plans to give Reece James his first senior start of the new season.

This also means Cesar Azpilicueta is set to fall down the pecking order now that Lampard has plans to give youth a chance.

After the break, Chelsea take on Wolves but this game might come too early for Reece James to be named in the starting XI which means that the Champions League clash vs Valencia is set to be his debut.

The Blues boss chose to bring in Billy Gilmour during the 2-2 draw vs Sheffield last weekend and this move was not taken too positively by the fans. So if Reece James cannot come up with good performances with the first-team then the pressure will increase even further on Frank Lampard.

But Azpilicueta was one of the weakest players on the pitch for Chelsea vs Sheffield and if he benched for the next couple of games we believe the fans should not take too much offence with this decision.
