David Luiz surprisingly joined Arsenal from Chelsea this summer but up until now, he has had a really topsy turvy time at the Emirates.

The Brazilian was brought in to add experience to the Arsenal backline and also to start the play from the back but during the two big games, the defender has been at fault on more than one occasion.

During the North London Derby vs Spurs on Sunday, David Luiz was easily one of the poorest Arsenal players on the pitch especially in the first half of the match and one of his errors led to the first Lilywhites goal.

And while some fans have come out to bash the defensive performance from their side, David Luiz has chosen not to hide behind a curtain and instead has come out to acknowledge the mistakes made.

“I think [the criticism] is normal, in my all my career it has been like that, especially when you are a defender,” he told Sky Sports News(as quoted by the Express).

“Strikers never lose games unless if they miss a penalty in the last minute, this is football. The defenders have to take responsibility and take [criticism] in a good way, in a humble way.

“We need to understand when we make a mistake and say that. I’m going to try to do my best always.

“My game until the penalty at Liverpool was very good, especially for our first big game. Today, even with pain I played the whole game and tried to show spirit until the very end.

“I am trying to improve with the team every single day. You have to be mature to understand this kind of moment.”

When Arsenal announced the signing of David Luiz, the decision was frowned upon by a lot of people since the Brazilian is not one of the finest central defenders there is, plus he is 32 years old.

And after the poor show vs Liverpool and now Spurs, the fears seem to be coming true.
