Ross Barkley wanted by Man United

Chelsea picked up a win vs Newcastle United in the Premier League but midfielder Ross Barkley came out of the match with an injury.

The England international has had a mixed season so far under new manager Frank Lampard. While Ross Barkley has managed to feature in 6 Premier League games so far but he has not been able to make any sort of positive impact.

And with the likes of N’Golo Kante out injured and Mateo Kovacic just returning back from a knock, Barkley got an opportunity to start in midfield alongside Mason Mount and Jorginho.

But as luck would have it, the Englishman injured his ankle as he rolled over it and had to be taken off in the 43rd minute of the match to be replaced by Kovacic.

Initially, it looked like the injury was not too serious and he should be fit in no time but speaking after the match, Frank Lampard has predicted the worst for Ross Barkley.

Lampard said: “Ross has turned his ankle and it looks a bit nasty at first glance but the doctor wants to have a look tomorrow, so I’ll know more then.”

Chelsea are back in the Champions League this week as they take on Ajax away from home and the absence of Ross Barkley could be a big headache for the Chelsea boss.

N’Golo Kante is already out with a groin injury while on international duty with France and if the midfielder cannot make himself fit for the trip to Amsterdam then Lampard could be travelling with a very limited amount of midfielders.

If Ross Barkley remains unavailable then the manager will have to name the trio of Mount, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the first XI vs Ajax.

While some reports claim Kante should be fit and available for selection before the Champions League clash but these rumours also claim the midfielder will not be fit enough to be handed a start.

It is still unclear as to how long Ross Barkley will remain out of action but initial reports claim the midfielder should be back in action before the end of the month – just in time to take on Man United in the League Cup.
