Billy Gilmour once again had a superb outing, this time helping Chelsea thrash Everton 4-0 in the Premier League.

The youngster caught everyone’s attention in midweek as Chelsea knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup and owing to that performance, Lampard decides to hand him one more start.

With Jorginho suspended, Billy Gilmour started in central midfield alongside Mason Mount and Ross Barkley coming out with flying colour. In fact, he was so good that Manchester United legend Roy Keane chose to shower praises on the former Rangers man.

“From his performance the other night[vs Liverpool], he was fantastic,” he told Sky Sports, as quoted by Standard.

“I was sitting at home with a cup of tea and a bit of chocolate in front of me and I didn’t have the volume on.

“As the game started I literally got out of my seat – which I very rarely do – and thought ‘who is this kid in midfield’.

“There are certain traits you want in a midfielder; quality on the ball, football intelligence, composure… he had everything. It was the best performance I had seen in a long, long time.

“The way he started, he was like a world-class player. That’s what he looked like straight away. I thought it was one of their experienced lads and I kept a close eye on him for the rest of the game.

“He’s a small kid but has a big composure about him. I’m looking forward to seeing him again.”

Will Billy Gilmour to be a world-beater?

Well, for starters, it’s not every day that Roy Keane comes out to praise someone so one hopes that Billy Gilmour can live up to all the hype.

For every young player making a good start is really important since if they can get their first big match right and then there’s every chance that they can use that momentum to make an impression. And we think this performance vs Everton was partly the result of his fine outing against Liverpool following which his manager chose to back him up for yet another start.

But it will be interesting to see how Billy Gilmour reacts when the adrenaline wears off or when he starts have a dip in form.
