Rangers have been trying to bring back Ryan Kent from Liverpool for yet another loan spell but Steven Gerrard is finding it really difficult to grab hold of the youngster.

Ryan Kent spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Ibrox and the winger was easily one of the brightest players in the whole of the Scottish Premiership.

So naturally these fine performances caught the eye of a number of top English clubs and now the likes of Leeds United and Middlesbrough too want the winger on loan.

Aston Villa wanted to sign him permanently but recent reports have suggested that the newly promoted side have pulled out of the deal claiming that they do not want to spend £10-12million on Ryan Kent.

And in recent weeks, rumours have suggested that it is Leeds United and not Rangers who are favourites to sign the winger for the 2019-20 season.

Now though Football Insider are claiming that Steven Gerrard’s side are willing to pay in excess of £1million as loan fee for Ryan Kent.

The report states: “Rangers have been handed a major boost in their bid to re-sign Ryan Kent for a second season, Football Insider can reveal.

“The Glasgow giants are working on a deal to beat Leeds United, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough to the signature of that Liverpool winger for what would be a loan fee well in excess of £1million.

“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club are in pole position ahead of Leeds to land Kent if the Champions League winners give the green light for the player to go out on loan again.”

If reports hold true then surely Rangers are back again on the driver’s seat in terms of signing of Ryan Kent meaning Gary McAllister’s statement would eventually hold true.

The Rangers assistant manager had recently said: “It is ongoing, but the decisions at Liverpool will probably be later down the line.

“Is he worth the wait? I would say so. He has got a rapport with the fans and there is no doubt he enjoyed his time here.

“That’s on the pitch, in and around the training ground and the city as well — he enjoyed Glasgow.

“We have to be aware that Liverpool might receive bids, but you don’t know. If Ryan is to go back out on loan again, I think we’d be first in line.”
