Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has been banned for 18 months for failing to abide by the Anti-Doping Rules.

Nasri was originally banned for six months but recently he has got his ban increased following an appeal.

The six months ban was imposed in February because the midfielder took an intravenous treatment at a Los Angeles clinic.

But recently the former Premier League winner was pictured getting an intravenous treatment from a private medical company, Drip Doctors, in his hotel room.

And immediately after these pictures surfaced UEFA’s ethics and disciplinary inspector argued that ban was insufficient after which the ban on Samir Nasri was increased to 18 months from six months.

Nasri is now a free agent and despite the ban, he will be able to train with any team from November. And this is because the ban is backdated to July 1, 2017, despite him making eight appearances for his then club Antalyaspor in Turkey.

A UEFA statement said:

“The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body’s decision of 22 February 2018 is amended as follows:

“1. The player Samir Nasri is suspended for eighteen (18) months. This suspension will start running on 1 July 2017.

“2. The player Samir Nasri is allowed to return to training, with any football club starting from 1 November 2018.”

Samir Nasri received the treatment in December 2016 while he was playing for La Liga side Sevilla(on loan from Manchester City).
