Celtic FC captain Scott Brown is on the verge of leaving the club – as per the latest reports.
The midfielder joined the Hoops in 2007 from Hibernian and since then the 33-year-old has been the mainstay in the Celtic squad.
But now it seems that Scott Brown is on his way out of Scotland and is heading to Australia.
Brown has received an offer from Western Australia and the new club are confident that they will be able to land the midfielder.
Speaking to RecordSport Western Melbourne’s Maurice Bisetto said: “We are pretty close with some players including a marquee.
“We are looking at a pre-season start in June, so things need to get moving.
“We think Scott Brown has a lot of positives and could make a significant contribution to a new club…as a leader on and off the field.
“There’s no doubt we could go for a bigger name, and that might get eyeballs and put bums on seats initially, but we are really focused on results and performance and the style of football we want to play.”
Scott Brown’s current contract runs out at the end of the season meaning the club will be more than happy to let him leave for a handsome transfer fee.
This though is not the first time that Western Australia have shown an interest in Scott Brown but earlier the Hoops were not interested in letting their captain leave.
Now though the situation has changed and Scott Brown has reportedly agreed on a two-year deal with an Australian club with an option for a third year.
There is no official confirmation yet but given that a number of prominent publications have been covering this transfer news, it is only a matter of time that Celtic announce the departure of Scott Brown.
Scott Brown’s influence on the pitch has diminished over the years meaning Brendan Rodgers will have no problem in replacing but with the departure of his captain the Celtic boss will now have to find a new leader.
