Manchester United have been linked with a move for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff as the club are keen to add another midfielder to their ranks – as per reports.

Sean Longstaff has come up through the ranks at Newcastle United and last season the youngster managed to feature in 9 Premier League games for the Magpies.

And now with Ayoze Perez leaving the club, it is being claimed that the mantle would now pass onto Sean Longstaff and next season, the 21-year-old would play a key role.

But there have also been reports that Ole is desperate to bring Longstaff on board and recently, the owner of Newcastle United, Mike Ashley dropped a hint regarding the midfielder’s future at the club.

In a recent interview, Newcastle United Mike Ashley had claimed that he is not rich enough to run the club and is also looking to sell off the club.

Mike Ashley told the Daily Mail: “The over-riding reality is that I am just not wealthy enough to own Newcastle. I genuinely believe you need £1billion.

“People say £500m but I’d bet anyone that these days you can’t do it for that. Not to compete at the very top.

“The day someone buys Newcastle, they’ll do their due diligence – and finished. It will happen like Manchester City.

“By the time the media find out, it’s already complete. There’s no need for a delay with Newcastle. It is, honestly, a very well-run football club.”

Hearing this statement many Man United fans would have come to the conclusion that the Magpies would be able to ready to sell off Sean Longstaff this summer.

But he had very categorically stated that the young midfielder is not for sale.

“The message we want to put out is that he is not for sale. If you’ve got one like Sean – keep him,” he added.

So it’s pretty clear that Man United will have to forget about signing Sean Longstaff and shift their focus to some other midfielder if Ole Solskjaer is still interested in acquiring the services of a midfielder.
