Pundit urges Arteta to take the Arsene Wenger route in order to revive Arsenal: Possible?

Arsenal suffered their 12th loss of the current Premier League season going down 3-0 to Liverpool at home this weekend and according to Jamie Carragher, Mikel Arteta should be looking to kickstart an overhaul during the summer transfer window.

Players like Lacazette, Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe were really poor on Saturday and even in general they have been pretty average this campaign. The Gunners have managed to score just 40 goals in the league so far while teams like Man United and Leicester have scored more than 50 goals.

A 40-goal push is not really bad but the big stars have been really underwhelming and this is why Carragher wants Mikel Arteta to shed so much-needed weight from the Arsenal squad in the summer.

‘It’s going to take a lot of pain for Arsenal,’ Carragher told Sky Sports, via Metro.

‘It’s the players, get rid of them. Stick with Arteta and get the young players in the team. ‘[Martin] Odegaard has come in and been a revelation, he’s someone you need to make a permanent signing if possible because he’s been fantastic. Has [Alexandre] Lacazette ever really been the answer? No. Willian has been a disaster of a signing.

‘Nicolas Pepe, it’s not his age or his price tag, really, he’s just not good enough and never will be good enough, so Arsenal need to cut their losses there.

‘With Aubameyang, he’s the superstar, but I think his performances this season have been lazy, at times. I don’t care how many goals he gets because if he doesn’t score a goal, he doesn’t bring anything to the team, and that’s a big problem.

‘They need more from him. It was one of the worst performances I’ve seen this season from Aubameyang against West Ham. I think there will be a big worry at Arsenal that they might have another Mesut Ozil situation.’

People like Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have been like a breath of fresh air this season but recent reports have suggested that the management might have to sell some off their youngsters if they cannot get back into the Champions League.

And this is absolutely opposite to what Carragher has suggested.

Players like David Luiz and Willian have just added more burden to the squad while Mikel Arteta has chosen to send out some of his youngsters on loan for the current season.

The manager looks like he’s still not sure as to what the right process is and until he can figure out his long-term plans, Arteta should be taking one game at a time rather than weaving an intricate dream.
