Rangers FC were planning to bring back midfielder Steven Davis to the club for a second stint.

Davis currently plays for Southampton and 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order ever since the Saints appointed Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new manager.

The midfielder has not started both the games that Hasenhuttl has been in charge of and multiple reports have claimed that the Premier League club are ready to sell him off during the January transfer window.

And up until now, Rangers were the frontrunners to signing Steven Davis.

But now it seems the deal could be in murky waters thanks to Ligue 1 side PSG.

According to a report, PSG are planning to make a £30 million bid for Mario Lemina during the January transfer window in order to replace Andrien Rabiot who is all set to join Barcelona.

And in case Lemina leaves St Mary’s next month then Hasenhuttl will not let Steven Davis leave – not until the end of the season.

Steven Davis has played just six games for Southampton this season and to be very honest the Premier League club have no use of the midfielder.

But in case Lemina leave for PSG then the club will want to hold onto Steven Davis until they can find a suitable replacement for Mario.

This is currently a huge cause of concern for Steven Gerrard who was pinning his hopes on Southampton’s Steven Davis in order to replace Ovie Ejaria who has cut his loan spell short and has returned back to Liverpool.

Steven Davis would have been a perfect addition to Rangers given the 33-year-old has already played for four years at the club before moving to Southampton in 2012.
