Liverpool were said to be the title contenders this season and before the campaign began everyone believed that Jurgen Klopp’s men would give a tough fight to Manchester City.

But almost everyone agreed that Pep Guardiola’s men would be able to retain their crown with ease.

Now that we are entering the second half of the 2018-19 season some voices claim Liverpool can actually turn the tide and pick up their first ever Premier League trophy.

The management have backed Jose Mourinho during the summer transfer window and shelled out a hefty amount in bringing in players like Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri.

But there was one man who had initially turned out to be a disappointment.

Midfielder Fabinho arrived at Anfield with much promise but all he did was warm the benches during the first couple of months forcing many to believe that the player would turn out to be a flop.

With the injury to James Milner, Fabinho got a rare start in midfield during the game against Manchester United and the Brazilian finally proved what he is capable of.

But his fellow teammate Gigi Wijnaldum believes that we are yet to see the best of the former Monaco man.

‘I think he can do even better – I think all of us can do even better,’ Wijnaldum told liverpoolfc.com.

‘It’s always difficult if you play for another team that didn’t play the way we play, so when you come here you have to settle in.

‘That’s not always easy and I think he did it quite well. Step by step he learned more about the way of playing.’

‘It’s always good if you have competition in one position because that means you have to perform to stay in the team,

‘But I think that has to be normal at a club like Liverpool because it’s a top team, one of the biggest teams in England, so Liverpool will always sign good players and that means there will always be competition in the team.

‘That makes players even better – not only because you have an ‘opponent’ in your position, but also because you play and train against good team-mates.’
