The SPFL had proposed ending the ongoing season immediately including the Premiership, Championship as well as the lower leagues which is why they had asked the opinions of all the clubs.

But unfortunately, the clubs failed to reach a unanimous decision primarily due to one side which is yet to vote on the matter.

The resolution for ending the season immediately was sent out for voting on the 8th of April and the SPFL requested the clubs to respond within two days as an urgent basis. But three clubs are yet to vote which means the resolution right now is stuck in limbo.

While the Premiership, League 1 and League 2 clubs have come to a favourable conclusion, one vote is needed to wrap up the Championship immediately and hence the wait.

Here’s how the voting status looks as on Friday at 5pm:

A spokesman said: “It is very important that clubs consider carefully the resolution and we are grateful to those clubs who have voted already.

“With the Ladbrokes Premiership and Ladbrokes Leagues 1 & 2 divisions each having approved the resolution, we await the voting slip from the one Ladbrokes Championship club that has yet to vote. We will provide an update as soon as we are in a position to do so.”

One Premiership club did not vote but that right now does not matter since the Premiership clubs have already voted unanimously(85% in favour).

But that single Championship club which did not vote now seems to be the deciding factor for the fate of the SPFL.

Recently the Scottish FA had announced that all football in the country will remain suspended till at least the 10th of June but if the lockdown does go on till that date, a lot of clubs will go under due to their financial instability.

And so one of the reasons why the SPFL wants to wrap up the season early so that they can start paying out the prize money in order to help out the clubs.
