Spurs are set to take on Arsenal in the North London Derby this weekend and before the high-profile encounter, it looks like that Pochettino just cannot make up his mind.
After losing 2-0 to Chelsea in midweek, Spurs are on the verge of falling out of the title race with many believing that they might have already crashed out.
But if Spurs do not manage to pick up a win vs their arch-rivals then Harry Kane and co will once again have to watch the trophy presentation on their television sets.
And right now when there is a huge debate as to what Spurs’ long term ambitions really are, Pochettino has made a set of bizarre statements.
At first, he came out to say that he was quite content with if they actually finished third in the Premier League.
“I think the feeling is a little bit weird,” the Spurs boss said.
“It should be that everyone before the start of the season (would) sign to be in the position that we’re in today.
“And you’re asking me, ‘It’s only four points that Arsenal or Manchester United are below us or Chelsea’?
“I think we’re living in different realities because, with all the circumstances, Tottenham deserve big praise to be in the position that we’re in at this moment of the season.
“Of course we’re disappointed in the last two results but we need to keep going and trust in our team.”
This statement has infuriated a lot of Spurs fans who have called out their team saying that this is the best they can ever do.
But then again, the Spurs boss made it clear that they were pushovers no longer.
“I can talk from when we have arrived. We are changing that perception that Tottenham were a little bit soft,” said Pochettino.
“I think the most important thing is that we are fighting in every single game. We can win or we can lose, we can finish second, first, third or fourth, fifth or six, we’ll see what happens, but the most important thing is that the team is fighting.”
So from what we feel the Spurs boss has the fire in the belly to compete against Arsenal but he feels fighting for the Premier League will be too big a challenge for his team.
