Spurs take on Manchester City in the EFL Cup final on Sunday and Daniel Levy chose to sack Jose Mourinho with just days to go for this all-important match.

Some say the sacking of Mourinho was due to Spurs’ poor form while others think he protested the European Super League. But no matter what the reason, Tottenham would have had a really great chance at beating Manchester City if the Portuguese was still in charge.

Now, interim coach Ryan Mason will take the team into the final so there’s no doubt City will be the outright favourites to win this game and pick up their first major silverware of the current season.

One saving grace for Spurs will be the fact that Man City’s form has started to dip over the past few matches. First, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea last weekend and then they somehow managed to escape with a win against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Spurs team news vs Manchester City:

Eric Dier was back in central defence against Southampton and Ryan Mason should once again use the England international alongside Toby Alderweireld for Sunday’s match.

The 29-year-old interim coach will not want to take too many risks against a team like Manchester City so he is expected to make minimal or no changes to his side which won against Southampton in midweek.

Harry Winks will be looking to make a comeback under the new boss but Mason should stick with Hojbjerg and Ndombele in defensive midfield with Lo Celso playing as the attacking midfielder.

Dele Alli was on the bench vs the Saints and he too will be hoping to get some game time now that Jose Mourinho has exited the club.

The real blow for Spurs will be with the injury to Harry Kane and if the manager’s midweek update is anything to go by then the forward is not expected to be ready for Sunday’s final.

The interim boss said on Wednesday: “Harry didn’t train today and it’s a case of taking it day by day. We’re still not sure about the weekend yet, but what we do know is that Harry is working extremely hard to get over this injury.

“He’s a top professional and will be doing all he can to get fit as soon as possible. There is no time scale on it but, hopefully, he won’t be out for too long.”

With Harry Kane possibly out, Son or Lucas Moura could be playing as the centre-forward while Gareth Bale operates on the right wing.
