Rangers FC failed to pick up their first league win under their new manager Steven Gerrard after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Aberdeen at the Pittodrie Stadium.

Despite playing most of the game with 10 men, the Light Blues led for most the match only to end the game with a single point after Aberdeen’s Bruce Anderson levelled the score in the 93rd minute.

Rangers fans felt that their team should have picked up all three points as they were the superior side on Sunday and had it not been for the harsh sending off of Alfredo Morelos then their team would have won the game comfortably.

After the game, manager Steven Gerrard chose some rather harsh words for the Aberdeen side as well as the officials and the Gers fans are loving the fact that their boss has chosen not to mince his words.

Speaking after the game, Gerrard said: “First and foremost, I am very proud of my players – the players that started and the players who came on – the effort they put into the game was magnificent.

“I am gutted for them that they never got over the line and took maximum points as I think we deserved it. I thought we were a class above Aberdeen today and had we had that little bit of quality in the final pass, we could have got another goal, maybe two or three.

“So in terms of the performance with 11 and 10, I am very pleased. I’m disappointed obviously to drop two points, but I can’t be critical of my team and what they gave me today.

“Tactically when we went to 10 men we were superb and every single player carried out exactly what we asked to the letter.

“I think if you are an Aberdeen fan or anything to do with Aberdeen, then today you would have seen a different Rangers.

“The mentality is different and we are a different team – a better team. I think at times we played some stunning stuff with 10 men which is a big compliment to the team.

“The lads are disappointed in there, but there is no way in the world we should go away disappointed – I thought we thoroughly deserved the three points and it’s just a shame we never saw the last three minutes out.

“I have a view on it and I think we have been hard done by. For the assistant referee just to see Alfredo’s action and not see McKenna’s barges before – the provocation – if he told the referee that he got barged in the face twice, then maybe he would have had a different view.

“It seems from the outside before I came in that Rangers don’t get much support with decisions like that, so that is disappointing.”
