Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has finally spoken out on why he chose to stay at Liverpool and not join Chelsea.

The Blues tried multiple times to sign Steven Gerrard during his peak years with the Anfield club and perhaps the most famous of those was turning down a £20m move to Stamford Bridge in 2004.

But the current Rangers FC manager has made it clear that he has no regrets on rejecting such a lucrative offer.

And speaking on this topic, Steven Gerrard has revealed as to why exactly he snubbed the Blues.

“The most important thing is the final decision was the right one,” he told The Guardian.

“Nine out of 10 people might argue I would have made more money, won more trophies, blah, blah. But them people are not me. They’re not in my city and they don’t have that connection with my club.

“That’s why I’m the one in 10.”

Steven Gerrard retired from professional football in 2016 after a very brief stint with LA Galaxy following which he joined the Liverpool academy as a youth coach.

And it was during this summer that the former English international took charge of Scottish Premiership side Rangers FC.

Under Steven Gerrard, the Teddy Bears have made rapid progress and they are currently third on the league table – just two points behind league leaders Celtic FC.
