Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Frank Lampard is set to move out of Derby County as he prepares to take charge of Chelsea this summer.

And naturally, in such a scenario a number of top names have been linked with the vacant position and one of them is Steven Gerrard.

Recent reports have suggested that Derby County are keen to bring on Steven Gerrard as their next manager for the upcoming season with some claiming that the Championship side have already made contact with the Gers.

These reports though have quickly been rubbished by Rangers who have made it clear that Derby County have not made any official approach for their manager.

Having said that though, the links between Gerrard and the Championship side just refuse to die down and many experts claim that Derby have made the Gers boss their first priority target.

But discussing the possible move Football Scotland have laid down four major reasons as to why Steven Gerrard is not likely to move back to England in order to join Frank Lampard’s former side.

1. The financial condition of Derby County:

Derby are currently in a financial turmoil and the club have already sold its stadium to owner Mel Morris in order to cut back on the losses.

So as per the report, if Gerrard was to move there then he would find it really hard to get a substantial transfer budget – atleast during the ongoing transfer window.

2. Rangers’ rebuilding job

As per Football Scotland, “Gerrard inherited a mess so great at Rangers, many people couldn’t see a route to success but he has steadily put in place the foundations for success.

“With last season’s signings of McGregor, Goldson, Arfield and Defoe he has built a spine that has the potential to take on Celtic.

“This season is about finessing the machine, of refining the mechanism.”

This means that Rangers are more than ready to challenge Celtic for the Premiership title this season. So the last thing that Gerrard would want to do is move to Derby County and start from scratch.

3. The loyalty issue:

As per the report, Steven Gerrard oozes loyalty which was pretty evident from his time at Liverpool.

He chose to stick with Liverpool even though he had multiple offers from big clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid.

So it will not be a shot in the dark to claim that Gerrard will not look to dessert Rangers this summer and take charge at Derby County.

4. Gateway to Liverpool:

Football Scotland claims, “If Liverpool boss is the ultimate aim, as he has barely tried to conceal, then a move to Derby offers a less obvious platform to develop the talents required for the role than at Ibrox.

“While there is pressure at Pride Park, its’ powder-puff stuff compared to the powderkeg that is Ibrox on a matchday.

T”o develop the media skills, ability to react under pressure, to measure yourself on the European stage and manage a club of significant historical importance like Liverpool, surely the best environment to learn is in a similar one like Rangers rather than the relative tranquillity of Derby County.”
