Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rangers FC beat Hamilton 4-1 at the Superseal Stadium on Sunday and Steven Gerrard’s men will surely be one happy bunch.

The Teddy Bears were labouring through the match with a 1-0 lead which came from Ryan Kent in the 41st minutes.

While everyone thought that the goal would be enough for Rangers to see the match through but Hamilton had other ideas as they equalised in the 80th minute. And it was then that the Gers woke up from their deep slumber.

Following the equaliser, Rangers won two penalties which were converted by James Tavernier and it was Alfredo Morelos who put the final nail in the coffin deep into injury time.

And speaking after the match, manager Steven Gerrard said: “Performance-wise, we weren’t at it today,”

“We weren’t great but I’m pleased with the three points and the result because all the talk before the game was about our away record and how we hadn’t had a win for eight months.

“The points were the most important thing for me but I wasn’t pleased with our display, to be honest.

“I think we were actually frightened when they equalised – that basically gave us the rocket we needed because, at 1-0 up, we were too casual and I didn’t feel comfortable on the sidelines.

“I always felt that they were going to have one opportunity or one decision that could have proved costly in terms of that win slipping from our grasp.

“But their goal scared us a bit and that sparked us into life. We then went on to win comfortably, but 4-1 flattered us.”

It was only a few weeks ago that Steven Gerrard lashed out on his men for not playing the Rangers way but that boiling blood seems to have died down very quickly and the manager is now understanding that playing great football and surviving a league are two very different aspects of the beautiful game.
