Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Newcastle United have parted ways with Rafa Benitez and many believe that current Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is the man who will replace him.

Rafa Benitez has head to the Chinese Super League and it looks like Mike Ashley has marked Steven Gerrard as his number one target to become the next Magpies manager.

Many experts have since claimed that the former Liverpool man will find it really hard to resist the offer to manage in the Premier League and might very well follow in the footsteps of Brendan Rodgers.

Former Rangers man Ally McCoist though had claimed that despite the Newcastle United job being such a lucrative one, Steven Gerrard is not likely to abandon the Gers ship given that he is yet to prove himself here.

“They’re both massive clubs,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live(as reported).

“They’re actually similar clubs in terms of their support. I think they’ve got absolutely fanatical support. Great support. Best supporters in the country I feel, so I’m not sure where I’d sit on it to be honest with you.

“But I’m not sure right now it would be a great move for Steven Gerrard to be honest with you, because he certainly has unfinished business at Rangers.”

And now it looks like McCoist was bang on with his predicted as the Mirror are claiming that Steven Gerrard has rejected an approach from Newcastle United.

The Mirror exclusively reported: “Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has rebuffed an approach from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley regarding the vacant manager position.

“Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has attempted to bring Steven Gerrard to St. James’ Park as Rafa Benitez’s replacement.

“Ashley targeted Rangers boss Gerrard and Nice manager Patrick Vieira after Benitez’s contract ran out and the Spaniard left for China.

“But the Sports Direct magnate has known from the offset that the chances of luring the Liverpool legend Gerrard to Tyneside were slim.”

Steven Gerrard had a pretty good first season with Rangers but still Celtic had a clean sweep of trophies. So naturally, the England legend will be itching to pick up a silverware during the 2019-20 season and maybe then he can think of managing a Premier League side.
