Liverpool are set to release Nathaniel Clyne this summer transfer window given that Jurgen Klopp already has the right-back area properly covered – as per reports.

Clyne fell down the pecking order last season at Liverpool thanks to Trent Alexander-Arnold and for the first half of the campaign, he was warming the benches.

But in January he was loaned out to AFC Bournemouth where he ended up making 14 league appearances for the Cherries.

Last week it was claimed Jurgen Klopp has made up his mind to offload the player amidst rumours that Crystal Palace want to bring in on board as a replacement to Aaron Wan Bissaka.

Nathaniel Clyne returned back to Anfield last month but the 28-year-old still has no use at the club which means Crystal Palace can sign him for a relatively low price.

The Football Insider had reported: “Crystal Palace have opened preliminary talks with Liverpool over a £25million double deal for Nathaniel Clyne and Simon Mignolet, Football Insider can reveal.

“The Londoners are keen to take advantage of right-back Clyne and goalkeeper Mignolet’s fringe status at Anfield as they work on what would be a significant heist on Anfield.

“A Palace source has told Football Insider that Palace have been in contact over a double swoop and early discussions have begun over the cost of transferring both players.”

Now though, fresh reports are claiming that Nathaniel Clyne might very well stay back Liverpool this season after he returned back for training.

The right-back has entered the final year of his contract which means if he does not leave now, Liverpool might have to release him as a free agent next year.

Liverpool are not in need of finances so the report claims, Jurgen Klopp could ditch the plan of selling Nathaniel Clyne this summer and let him leave for free at the end of the 2019-20 season.

The Reds boss has already chosen to do the same with both Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge this summer so if Clyne too follows the same route, we won’t be surprised.

Having said that though, if the Nathaniel Clyne chooses to stay at Liverpool for the upcoming season, then it certainly be a huge blow for Crystal Palace who are now desperate to find a replacement for Aaron Wan Bissaka.
