Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard took charge of Rangers last summer but now the former England international has been tipped to head back to England.

Rafa Benitez has not been handed a new deal at Newcastle United which means he left the club at the end of last month and now reports are claiming that he will take charge of a Chinese club.

The Guardian earlier this week reported that Rafa Benitez has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Chinese side Dalian Yifang. And now Rangers boss Steven Gerrard looks to be the favourite to replace Benitez at St James’ Park.

Steven Gerrard has done really well during his first season in the Scottish Premiership and every major pundit has predicted that the Gers will be ready to challenge Celtic to the SPFL title during the 2019-20 season.

But that opportunity might not see the light of the day as multiple rumours claim that the former Liverpool man just like Brendan Rodgers will not miss the chance to head back to the English Premier League.

Former Rangers man Ally McCoist though thinks otherwise claiming that Steven Gerrard will not be heading back to England this summer because he still hasn’t proved himself with the Gers.

“They’re both massive clubs,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live(as reported).

“They’re actually similar clubs in terms of their support.

“I think they’ve got absolutely fanatical support. Great support.

“Best supporters in the country I feel, so I’m not sure where I’d sit on it to be honest with you.

“But I’m not sure right now it would be a great move for Steven Gerrard to be honest with you, because he certainly has unfinished business at Rangers.”

Last season, the Gers might have significantly improved under Steven Gerrard but they failed to pick up any silverware and McCoist believes that winning the Premiership is right now the main focus of the Rangers boss.
