Steven Gerrard was appointed as the new Rangers boss during the summer and since then the former Liverpool midfielder has gone on to make a number of signings.

Last season, the Gers were miles behind their Glasgow rivals Celtic and Gerrard’s biggest job now is to bring the club back to competing terms with Brendan Rodgers side.

Along with buying players to rebuild his squad it now looks like the Light Blues manager is also working on making the back room stronger.

Steven Gerrard has revealed that he wants to bring back Gers legend and former manager Walter Smith.

Though unsure of what kind of role, Walter will play, Gerrard has claimed that his experience will come in handy for the whole team.

Gerrard said“I haven’t really thought about it in terms of roles or at what level we want to use him,

“I think we just want to get him round the table and have a chat with him — get his thoughts and his experience, how he saw last year and get some advice.”

Walter Smith previously had two managerial stints with Rangers – the first one from 1991 to 1998 and the second game between 2007 to 2011.

And both his stints were laden with trophies.

In total, Walter Smith managed to win 10 Scottish League titles, 5 Scottish Cups and 6 Scottish League Cups. In addition to the club accolades, the 70-year-old has also managed to win the SPL Manager of the Year award on two occasions.
