Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard has done some really good work since he took charge of Rangers last year and many believe the Gers will earnestly challenge Celtic for the Premiership title this campaign.

And this forecast was shaping to be true up until the first Old Firm Derby two weeks ago when Celtic crushed Rangers 2-0 and this was a real eye-opener for Steven Gerrard.

Speaking after the loss, the manager had a few harsh statements reserved for his players, especially Jordan Jones who picked up a red card deep into injury time.

But according to former Hoops player Paul Slane, Steven Gerrard needs to stop throwing his players under the bus every time his team performs poorly.

Slane said(as reported by Daily Record): “The best manager of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson, was known for the hairdryer treatment.

“He did it in the changing room but went out and blamed everyone but the players in the media. But until Steven Gerrard gets it right and stops throwing his players under the bus…

“His starting XI was bizarre – that’s the only word to describe it.

“How many times is he going to blame the players? After the game, he blamed the players.

“You played the totally wrong team, no wingers. Celtic’s back four and the keeper haven’t played with each other. They’ve just come in.”

Steven Gerrard probably chose to criticize his players in public so that they get an extra layer of impulse for the remainder of the season.

But this is not the first time that the Teddy Bears boss has done such a thing and some experts believe it won’t be long before one of the senior players start taking things personally.

The former Liverpool man has done a lot of work in rebuilding the squad during the past three transfer window and he now just needs to stand by the talents he has brought in and give them time to settle in the Premiership.
