Rangers FC lost their first game of the 2018-19 season last Sunday when they went down 1-0 to Celtic during the Old Firm Derby.
The Light Blues were tipped by many to win the encounter but sadly that was not the case as Steven Gerrard’s men were outplayed in almost every department on the pitch.
And now BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus has come out to slam the Gers boss claiming that Gerrard used followed a tactic which even a novice manager would not use against Celtic.
Writing in his column, McManus said: “I can’t believe that even a novice manager such as Gerrard would have sent his team out tactically to sit on the edge of their own box, play for a 0-0 and thump long hopeful balls up to Lafferty and Morelos.
“Rangers showed no courage on the ball to get on it and play.
“In any derby game, yes you cannot get bullied physically, but when you get the chance to gain possession you need to pass the ball and show for your team-mate. To be brave is not to go and smash someone. It’s to get on the ball under pressure.
“Rangers just didn’t do it. The back four sat so deep it was frightening but they couldn’t get up the park because the two strikers were really poor and couldn’t hold the ball up at all.”
Steven Gerrard had already come under fire after the manager chose to back his 3-5-2 formation against Motherwell last week even though it was a complete failure.
And the fact that he had chosen to use it once again during the Old Firm Derby has certainly not won him any more followers.
