Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is on the verge of making his club’s eighth signing of the summer after reports emerge that Roma striker Umar Sadiq has agreed to join the Gers.

For several weeks now, Sadiq has been linked with a move to Ibrox but it was earlier this week that Gerrard himself acknowledged the fact that the club were interested in him.

Though the manager did not outrightly claim that his club was after the 21-year-old but his interest in the player was more than enough for everyone to believe that the Light Blues were after Umar Sadiq.

And within days of Steven Gerrard’s revelation, the striker’s close friend has claimed that Sadiq has indeed agreed to join Rangers.

Talking to Liberty Radio, Umar Sadiq’s close friend, Mohammed Mowiz Suleiman said: “He (Sadiq) has agreed to join Rangers because at Roma the coach couldn’t guarantee him a regular run of games if he stays,

“Something he knows he can get in Scotland with Rangers.

“I think the catch has to be the chance of working with Steven Gerrard. The move per the last time I spoke with Sadiq should be done by next week.

“He recently got married to his Italian girlfriend, so the issue of work permit won’t be an issue.”

Recent reports have also suggested that Rangers are shelling out a six-figure sum in order to bring Umar Sadiq on a season-long loan from AS Roma.
