Unai Emery stop Joachim Low from entering Arsenal training ground
Joachim Low Germany

Germany suffered an embarrassing exit from the 2018 World Cup group stages which means that the Russia edition of the tournament will see a new champion.

Germany went into the match against South Korea needing a win to secure a berth in the Round of 16 but were shockingly humbled to a 2-0 defeat.

Most of the match remained at 0-0 which was no use to Joachim Low’s side and in a desperate urge to getting that elusive goal, the 2014 winner conceded two late goals.

The humiliating exit has sent ripples across Germany and now the fans are calling for a major rehaul of the squad.

And many are of the view that manager Joachim Low will be the front person to be shown the door.

Low has been in charge of the German national team since 2006 and this is easily the lowest that Die Mannschaft have hit under the 58-year-old’s regime.

Like many senior players in the squad, Joachim Low is also expected to be relieved of his duties and this has started to become a bit of a headache for a couple of clubs in Europe.

Germany will surely go after a big name in the managerial circuit who has the capacity to bring back the glory of the national team and here are some of the top candidates who have emerged in the past 24 hours.

1. David Wanger:

Currently, the manager of Huddersfield Town, David Wagner’s name has been mentioned by a couple of sources as the likely replacement to Joachim Low.

Wagner is no stranger to German football having spent all of his club career in Germany and he has also represented the country in their U21 division. The 46-year-old though played his senior international football for the United States due to his American roots.

If Germany come calling then surely David Wagner should not hesitate to take up the job given that it will be a major upgrade from his position at Huddersfield Town.

2. Jurgen Klopp:

A dear friend to David Wagner and also a prime candidate for replacing Joachim Low. Ever since Germany lost to South Korea a series of tabloid have claimed that the defending champions are giving a serious thought to recruiting current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp is currently having the spell of his managerial life at Anfield and there is very little evidence to suggest that the former Dortmund manager will leave his chair at Liverpool and move back to Germany – especially to take charge of a major rebuilding process.

3. Arsene Wenger:

Wenger is currently without a job since he severed all ties with Arsenal at the end of the season. So it should not come as a huge surprise if the Premier League stalwart takes up the job with the Germany national team.

Wenger has maintained that he is not retiring from management which makes him a pretty easy target for Germany.

Notable mention: Pep Guardiola

The Manchester City manager is currently the undisputed king of the Premier League and given the fact that he has just joined City two seasons ago is evidence enough that he will not be leaving soon.

But the former Barcelona manager recently claimed that his next big dream would be to manage a national team and maybe win the World Cup. So who knows. If Germany knock on his door, Guardiola might just start packing his bags.
