Chelsea suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Bournemouth meaning the Blues have now suffered four losses in their last five Premier League matches.
The Stamford Bridge outfit started the new season very brightening but all that initial sparkle seems to have faded away and right now, Lampard’s men are struggling to even play fluid attacking football.
While many people feel the manager will need to bring in a bunch of new players during the January transfer window if he wishes to revive his team’s fate but according to Jamie Redknapp, its the senior pros in the squad who need to step up.
Jamie Redknapp wrote for the Daily Mail: “Chelsea have had a wobble, losing four of their last five Premier League games under Frank Lampard, but let’s take a moment to think before hammering his youngsters.
“Mason Mount is 20, and Tammy Abraham is 22, and there has been such an emphasis on these two to be everything for Chelsea – to create, to score, to be their match-winners.
“They have been dynamite but to expect them to do all of that week in, week out in the world’s most difficult division is unrealistic.
“The more experienced members of Lampard’s squad have to stand up and be counted, too. They need to take on their share of the workload.
“The likes of Willian and fit-again Pedro cannot expect Mount and Abraham to carry this club. When on the pitch, they need to perform.
“Those two have shown themselves as Chelsea’s saviours time and time again this season. Where would that club be now without those two? Not fourth, I can tell you that.
“Let’s not forget the contribution of 21-year-old Fikayo Tomori, either, or the fact this is 21-year-old Christian Pulisic’s first season in England. So yes, Chelsea are in a rocky situation but these young guys need help.
“They need refreshing. Mount and Abraham cannot be expected to carry a club between them.”
Lampard had no choice but to use young players in his squad due to the transfer embargo but it seems that his overreliance on the academy lads has back-fired badly.
The likes of Willian, Alonso and Pedro have taken a back seat as far as the first XI is concerned but now it seems like these players need to come forward and shield the youngsters during crunch matches.
