Man United vs Sevilla UEFA Europa League
Europa League

The Europa League final is set to be played next week at the Baku Olympic Stadium next week between Arsenal and Chelsea.

But right now, if UEFA was given the opportunity then they would love to cancel everything and rebuild from scratch.

As things stand, the Europa League final is turning out to be a total mess and there are fears that the game might be played in front of thousands of empty seats.

The first major uproar happened when both the finalists were allocated around 6,000 tickets each for the Europa League final.

This naturally infuriated the fans since the official capacity of the Baky Olympic Stadium is around 68,000.

But both Chelsea and Arsenal are now finding it hard to sell even these tickets due to the high cost of travelling and complexity involved in travelling to Baku from London.

The fans of either clubs will have to shell out a fortune in order to make the trip to Azerbaijan for the Europa League final and it looks like many people have decided not to make the journey.

Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal have managed to sell out only 2,500 tickets for the game and right now the club is cold-calling and sending emails to season ticket holders in a bid to get rid of the remaining tickets.

And the scenes at Stamford Bridge too are not so great.

One season-ticket holder said: “I thought it was a joke. The fact they cannot get rid of such a small allocation shows what a farce this final is.

“I don’t blame Arsenal, the fault lies with UEFA.

“They should have checked fans from western Europe would be able to get to Baku before deciding to stage the game there.”

Now the Times are claiming that several sponsors are also backing out from the Europa League final.

The report states: “Several sponsors are set to follow the lead of both clubs in returning a large proportion of the 2,000 tickets that they have been given by European football’s governing body. The difficulty and cost of travelling to the capital of Azerbaijan mean that some companies are struggling to give the tickets away.”
