Mason Mount has received an England national team call-up by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming fixtures which is probably well deserved since the youngster has been one of the best players in the Chelsea squad so far this season.

The midfielder spent the previous season out on loan at Derby under the watchful eyes of Frank Lampard and when Frank took charge of Chelsea this season it was more or less certain that Mason Mount would be playing a key role at the Bridge.

So far, the 20-year-old has started in every Premier League game for Chelsea and has also managed to score two goals for them which is probably why he will be one of the players to watch out for when England take on Bulgaria and Kosovo during the international break.

But as Mason Mount is riding high, another equally talented youngster – Phil Foden is slowly fading into oblivion, mostly due to Pep Guardiola.

Phil Foden is an academy graduate at Manchester City and during the summer, Guardiola had marked him as one of the best talents he had ever seen.

The Spaniard had said: “He has everything to become one of the best players.

“I have said many times in press conferences, Phil is the most, most, most talented player I have ever seen in my career as a manager.”

But unfortunately, even after such high praise, Phil Foden has managed to play only 10 minutes of league football this season and that too came on the opening day of the season towards the end of the match.

While Mason Mount spent the whole of last season out on loan in order to gain experience and gather up playing time, Foden has been warming the bench at City for the past couple of seasons now.

Guardiola has maintained that the youngster will get his chance this season but it looks like the midfielder will be playing mostly in the cup games while the likes of Mason Mount and Mason Greenwood are trying to find a niche in the Premier League.

Many believe this is going to be a make or break season for Phil Foden since Gareth Southgate has a host of options in the midfield area.

So if Pep Guardiola does not wake up and give the youngster chances in the league, pretty soon he might turn into another Ravel Morrison while Mason Mount will be trying to emulate Frank Lampard in the national team.
