England are trying to reach their first semi-final in the World Cup since 1990 by beating Sweden in the quarterfinals on Saturday at Samara.
But before the Sweden vs England game kicked off, there were a few concerns over the number of fans that were expected to be in the stadium.
Reports suggested that there would be around 3,500 England fans at Samara compared to 5,500 Sweden fans which mean that the Sweden vs England game was on the verge of being played infront of an empty stadium.
But thankfully the Three Lions fans are ensuring that such a catastrophe does not happen.
According to the latest reports, thousands of England fans are flocking to Samara in order to watch the Swede vs England encounter at the Samara stadium.
A group of 100 English fans will take a chartered flight from the Stansted airport at 6 am on Saturday in order to reach Samara and will head back home on Sunday.
Chris Waters one of the members of the 100 men travelling contingent said(as reported by the Guardian): “It’s a five-hour flight so we land four hours before the game and go straight to the stadium,
“It’s worked out quite well because there’s nowhere to stay over there. We tried commercial flights and going via Istanbul but didn’t have any luck.
“I’ve been off the drink all week and trying to get eight hours’ sleep a night because I won’t be sleeping at all.
“So it’s been expensive but it’s a chance to see England in the quarter-final of a World Cup and that doesn’t come about very often.”
Like Chris, many such fans willing be reaching Russia on the same day of the Sweden vs England clash while some have made good use of their time and have arrived in Samara a couple of days early.
The fans did face a few hiccups while buying tickets as some of them had to pay double the face value of the tickets from ticket touts. But a large part of them were in for a surprise as FIFA unexpectedly released 2000 tickets for the Sweden vs England game on Thursday thus curtailing a lot of the demand.
