A couple of weeks ago it was being claimed by various media publications that Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson was close to joining West Ham United.
It was being reported that the Hammers and Anderson had agreed to their personal terms and the only thing now left to do was to agree on a fee with his current club Lazio. Now though it seems that West Ham just cannot get past that hurdle.
Pellegrini’s side are willing to pay somewhere in the region of £25 to £30 million for Felipe Anderson but as things stand Lazio are not ready to accept anything less than £40 million.
And many feel that this is because Anderson’s former club Santos FC have a 25% sell-on percentage on the deal which is hugely inflating the prices.
So now in an act of desperation to get the attacking midfielder on board, West Ham have made contact with Santos and have requested them to lower their percentage to 10 so that the deal can go through.
But the price negotiations does not seem to be the only problem that Manuel Pellegrini is facing as some reports are of the view that their London rivals Chelsea have suddenly shown an interest in Felipe Anderson.
The Blues are on the verge of appointing Maurizio Sarri as their new manager and the former Lazio manager wants to bring the attacking midfielder on board having worked with him in Italy.
This news is sure to throw a spanner in West Ham’s work who are now desperately trying to bring Felipe Anderson on board.
And in addition to that, their talks with Santos have not harboured any fruit either as the club’s president, José Carlos Peres has made it clear that they will not give in to West Ham’s demands.
So the only thing that is now left for the Hammers to do is to pay what Lazio are asking for and get Felipe Anderson on board as soon as possible.
