Thomas Partey to Arsenal

Premier League side Arsenal have moved one step closer towards signing midfielder Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid – according to FootballGhana.

A couple of weeks ago, Thomas’s father had revealed that Arsenal were in talks with his son and after some initial denying, eminent journalists have confirmed that the Gunners are indeed in pursuit of the midfielder.

“After hearing the rumours, I called my son and he told me they’re all true,” Jacob Partey, the father of Thomas confirmed on Entsie en Tru FM(as reported by AS). “He told me that they are in talks, him and Arsenal. It all depends on what Atlético have to offer,”

Atletico Madrid so far have been reluctant to part ways with Thomas Partey but now it seems they have changed their stance and are willing to cash in on the midfielder.

Will Arsenal be able to land Thomas Partey?

As per the report, “La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have identified Uruguay international Mauro Arambarri as the replacement for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey if he leaves the club, footballghana.com can exclusively report.”

So it’s clear, the La Liga giants will not be able to make Thomas sign a new deal at the club meaning Arsenal will only have to pay £45 million in order to bring the defensive midfielder on board in the summer.

Mauro Arambarri currently plays for Getafe and if Atletico do manage to get the release clause for Thomas Partey then signing Arambarri should not be a major problem for Diego Simeone, as the player is expected to cost around £18 million.

But Arsenal will need to offload some of their own central midfielders at the end of this season before they can try and make a move for Thomas Partey.

The North London side currently have players like Granit Xhaka, Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira amongst their ranks meaning Arteta can coup up a few million pounds by selling some of them in the summer.

At the back of their minds, Atletico Madrid are still hoping Thomas Partey will sign a new deal but we think it’s only a matter of time before Arsenal manage to get their hands on the 26-year-old.

Also, as per a recent rumour, Thomas has told the Atletico management that he wishes to join Arsenal next season in case he heads out of Spain.
