Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu picked up a knock during the 2-1 win over Wolves at the Emirates Stadium and as per reports, the full-back will be out for some time.

The defender had been starting the previous couple of games ahead of Ben White but he played only 79 minutes vs Wolves last weekend. Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta said that the defender’s injury does not look good and it seems like the worst has come true.

“We had a scan and it’s not good news,” manager Mikel Arteta had said after the Wolves game. “He’s got an injury in his calf and he’s going to be out for a while I think.”

As per the latest updates, Takehiro Tomiyasu could be out for around four to six weeks due to this calf injury. If the full-back is out for more than a month then he is likely to miss 10 to 12 games for Arsenal.

The first international break of the new year starts in the second week of January and if everything goes according to plan then Tomiyasu should be back after the break.

Ben White is the immediate alternative for Mikel Arteta so naming a right-back will not be a problem for the Arsenal manager but with Tomiyasu’s injury, the bench strength has reduced tremendously.

If White were somehow to get injured then it would be a disaster for the Arsenal manager because then someone will have to play out of position.

During this one-month period, Arsenal have some tough games including three matches against Liverpool(twice in the EPL and one in the FA Cup) and given that Liverpool are just two points behind Arsenal on the table, these ties will be really crucial.

Overall, the injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu is not the end of the world for the Gunners but the management needs to bring in proper reinforcements during the January window if Arsenal wish to lift the Premier League trophy.
