Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Toulouse FC defender Christopher Jullien during the summer transfer window.

Jullien joined Toulouse FC from Bundesliga side Freiburg for a fee of €2.8 million and during the 2018-19 season, the centre-back has caught the attention of a number of clubs in Europe.

The Bhoys have lost Dedryck Boyata on a free transfer and Filip Benkovic has also headed back to England. And in such a scenario, Neil Lennon has made signing a defender his absolute priority.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form for Toulouse FC this past season and according to TransferMarkt, the player is valued £5.37 million but the Glasgow outfit are willing to pay around £10 million in order to secure his services.

While most fans are happy that the club are spending a substantial amount of money in order to strengthen their defence but Chris Sutton has claimed that a move for the Toulouse FC defender just shows the lack of ambition from the Bhoys.

“There’s been talk about Christopher Jullien from Toulouse and Celtic might be swaying about paying up to £8-10million. The reality is paying £8m is nothing at this level,” said Sutton.

“Aston Villa have signed a striker who is a work in progress from Brugge for £22m. That’s the market now.”

“The big question is where are Celtic’s ambitions? Is the priority domestic dominance and going for nine and 10 in a row? Or is it the Champions League?”

Right now reports suggest that there have been only preliminary talks with Toulouse FC in regards to the transfer of Christopher Jullien which means a transfer is still a fair way away.

And perhaps the biggest obstacle for Celtic would be to convince the defender to move to Scotland during the summer.

As per reports, the Toulouse FC defender has not yet decided whether he wants to leave the club and more so if he sees a concrete future in the Scottish Premiership.
