Arsenal lost the Europa League final to Chelsea 4-1 and this was one of the most humiliating performances that we have seen from an Unai Emery side for quite some time now.

The Gunners were at par with Chelsea during the first 45 minutes but in the second half, the ship just crumbled for Unai Emery.

Arsenal lost their shape in midfield and in defence which helped Eden Hazard provide a man of the match performance at Baku.

After the match, Unai Emery made it clear that a number of his current players would be should the door during the summer.

“Our idea is to continue to carry on and improve with the young players that have arrived,” Emery said(via Sky Sports). “Maybe some players need to leave but it’s not the moment to speak about that.

“We have the possibility for a lot of players to improve. We have young players getting the first experience of a final and I am positive for our future with young players getting better in our way.

“I am very proud of our work, not very proud to not achieve our target, but proud of our work because I think the players did all they could to achieve our target and we are closer to other teams.”

But now speaking about Arsenal’s overall performance during the 2018-19 season, former striker Alan Smith has claimed that Unai Emery has failed to solve the most basic problem at the club.

“For the last few years, you always felt, when Arsenal conceded a goal, for the following 10 minutes or so, they lost their shape and composure,” he told the Evening Standard.

“Even though you have got very experienced players in there, there is something with that dressing room.

“It all goes haywire and, unfortunately, Emery hasn’t been able to change that. That is a huge challenge for the manager: introducing that tough, winning mentality into that dressing room.

“I was hoping he would be able to bring in a bit more organisation when Arsenal haven’t got the ball, to sit in there for 10 or 15 minutes, soak up a bit of pressure.

“He has got nowhere near to achieving that, which is a big disappointment.”
