Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard is currently looking to bring in a new central defender during the summer transfer window.

And if reports are to believed then the Gers are looking to bring in 22-year-old Hearts centre-back John Souttar.

John Souttar is a youth product of Dundee but he left the club back in 2016 to join Hearts and this past season, he has grabbed a number of eyeballs with his fine performances.

Rangers are reportedly planning to make a move for John Souttar somewhere during the summer and according to former Celtic man Mark Wilson, the youngster should grab the opportunity with both hands.

Mark Wilson said: “I’ve got to say if John Souttar is offered to go to Rangers and Hearts accept it, I can’t see John Souttar having a problem.

“He’s wanting to stay in the international fold and playing European football and playing beside better players like he would at Rangers and under Steven Gerrard would improve him.

“So I don’t think for one minute that John Souttar would turn that move down if it got offered to him.”

During the 2018-19 season, John Souttar has played in 35 games across all competitions for Hearts having scored one goal and made two assists.

And the other big reason why Gerrard might be inclined to sign the 22-year-old is the fact that apart from playing in central defence, he can also be deployed as a right-back and also as a defensive midfielder.

But one big hurdle for the Gers in signing the defender is the fact that Hearts reportedly want at least £3 million for him. And this is a really steep price.

While Rangers can afford to bargain but given that John Souttar is under contract until 2022, Hearts right now have no urgency to offload him.
